BLADE Treadmill Training for Teams & Associations

The BLADE treadmill has a distinct advantage over typical on-ice skating development and has far exceeded our own expectations since opening out first of three centres two years ago.

As a large on-ice development company, we take advantage of using video for our on-ice training whenever possible.  The opportunity for players to see themselves in motion irrefutably has its beneficial elements for refining a player’s stride.

The BLADE treadmill training centres allow us to add another element to the sensory training experience.  We are now able to create the FEELING of proper stride for your players.  With the use of 3 live video feeds, all from different angles, a large 6’ x 8’ mirror, and one-on-one coaching, we can now engage multiple senses for players.  The video allows players to see their true movement while the coaches encourage them into proper technique.  This allows the players to recognize the FEELING of proper stride, rather than just knowing what it looks like.

The evolution of learning the FEELING of proper stride to that FEELING turning into a natural habit has accelerated player’s development multiple times over when compared to standard on-ice training.

About the BLADE Treadmill

The BLADE skating treadmill is ideal for skaters of all levels.  From beginners learning fundamentals to professional athletes seeking stride efficiency and endurance development, the BLADE is the ultimate tool for developing technique and improving overall skating abilities.

The key to BLADE training is the controlled atmosphere.  Coaches and trainers can easily communicate with skaters, providing constant instruction and supplying direct feedback to get results.

Treadmill Distinct Advantage Over On Ice Training

With the use of speed and incline to manipulate the treadmill, we are able to compensate for any player deficiency or desired training focus.  The BLADE treadmill can reach speeds of 0-25 mph and can move from a negative five degree incline all the way up to thirty-five degree incline, giving a wide range of combinations to customize training for each player.

Distinct Advantage over similar on ice training: The BLADE treadmill training centres allow us to add another element to this sensory training experience.  We are now able to create the FEELING of proper stride for your player(s).  With the use of four live video feeds, all from different angles, a large 6’ x 8’ mirror, and one-2-one coaching, we can now engage multiple senses for players.  The video allows players to see their true movement while the coaches encourage them into proper technique.  This assists the players in recognizing the FEELING of proper stride, rather than just knowing what it looks like or trying to interpret only by how a coach explains it.

Development Sessions - Overview

Our goal for the treadmill player development program is to provide a controlled environment that will both challenge and consistently develop players throughout each session.  We have established a program that focuses on encouraging players to achieve their goals.  Our program suits each age/skill level and is designed to complement team practices and development goals.

Development Benefits
Straight line skating:
Proper technical skating means additional speed and efficiency.
Acceleration training:
The treadmill size allows for quick start and power generation training.
Balance and Body Control:
The use of technology visually shows players proper motion.
Backwards stride:
Advanced skaters will learn to generate speed while increasing agility in transition.
Transition/Lateral skating:
Gives players the confidence to move laterally, versus always skating and turning.
Puck & Ring handling in stride:
P

Logistics of Team & Association Training

With teams traditionally being made up of 15 skaters, we have generated our team training sessions around this.  A team training session includes exclusive reservation of our facility for the agreed dates/times, as well as direct program development and personalized training by our full-time coaches.

Our proprietary training programs have been generated to accommodate all levels and skill levels of players. Throughout the team training sessions, progress will be tracked in order to ensure each training session builds on the previous session.  A training baseline will then be established for each team and will dictate how the players progress through each custom training session thereafter.

*Modifications can be made for teams larger than 15 skaters and/or to accommodate goalies.  Teams with 15 or less players (including goalies) will not be required to make specific accommodations.

Our Intangible Advantage: With our company consisting of 5 full time coaches and research professionals including former professional hockey players as well as a Team Canada National team ringette players, we do not view athlete development as a hobby.  It is the sole focus shared by all Next Generation HKY team members and partners.

The opportunity for your group’s players to not only have an accomplished coach instruct them, but to also gain a role model, makes these training sessions carry multiple advantages.
