Daily Activities & Training

Treadmill—Efficient, Explosive Skating

As a large on-ice development company, we take advantage of using video for our on-ice training whenever possible.  The opportunity for players to see themselves in motion irrefutably has its beneficial elements for refining a player’s stride.

The BLADE treadmill training centres allow us to add another element to this sensory training experience.  We are now able to create the FEELING of proper stride for your player(s).  With the use of 3 live video feeds, all from different angles, a large 6’ x 8’ mirror, and one-2-one coaching, we can now engage multiple senses for players.  The video allows players to see their true movement while the coaches encourage them into proper technique.  This assists the players in recognizing the FEELING of proper stride, rather than just knowing what it looks like or trying to interpret only by how a coach explains it.

The evolution of learning the FEELING of proper stride to that FEELING turning into a natural habit has accelerated player’s development multiple times over when compared to simply on-ice training.

Shooting - RapidShot Training

Puck Reception
The RapidShot Hockey Training System provides an unparalleled passing rate. Up to 800 passes per hour allows you to develop this “feel for the puck”. The evaluation of each shot gives you the understanding that you can only perform your best with good puck reception

Reaction Time
On the ice, in the heat of a game, you must find the spot on the net that the goalie "gives you". The faster you perform this task, the harder it is for the goalie to make the save.

The RapidShot Hockey Training System simulates the least covered corners of the net, randomly lighting up one of four lamps just as you receive the pass. This forces you to have the goal in your field of vision while receiving the pass. The time from receiving the puck until it leaves the blade is measured with high precision. The reaction time is displayed on the monitor for each shot, as well as your average for the current series.

Puck Speed
All other factors being equal, the faster the puck speed the harder it is to save. The puck speed depends on multiple variables; having the right stick, your physical strength. But the most important is a highly developed and consistent technique.

By having immediate feedback and the maximum rate of repetition within the shortest period of time, the RapidShot Hockey Training System allows you to learn the best technique. You can learn to optimize your puck speed, without sacrificing reaction time or accuracy. Your puck speed is displayed on the monitor immediately after a target is hit, along with the average puck speed of the current series.

Accuracy
Only RapidShot makes it possible for the player and coach to evaluate accuracy, by observing the shooting statistics recorded in each corner. RapidShot stats can identify strengths and weaknesses, by corner. In addition, each of the four corners of the goal is subdivided into 3 target sections, blue, green and yellow. The blue targets are the hardest to cover by the goalie. They result in the highest score when they are hit, but represent the highest risk of hitting the post or missing the goal.

The user is shown his precise level of accuracy immediately and in long-term evaluations right at the lane monitor, and also at the member site on the Internet.

The Evaluation System
The RapidShot formula calculates a value from reaction time, puck speed and accuracy, also taking into consideration the adjustable pass speed and pass interval. These RapidShot points represent the probability of scoring on ice for each shot.

Stick Handling - RapidHands Training

RapidHands is a unique hockey training system that improves vision and stickhandling by providing a fun way to train while encouraging sound fundamentals through consistent feedback and scoring.

This training system uses sensors embedded in synthetic ice to track the movement of the puck. When the system asks a player to stickhandle over a specific target, the puck activates the sensor, informing the software that the maneuver has been performed.  It also allows players to work on their transition from stick handling to passing on both sides of the stick.

Scores are recorded, performance is measured and feedback is provided to gauge the player’s progress and shows how they rank with respect to their peers.

Rapid Hands forces players to keep their head up to watch the screen while they stick handle.

Off-Ice Hockey Specific Workouts
The camp will also have hockey specific off-ice training. The age appropriate training hour will focus on isolating hockey specific muscles and energy systems—zeroing in on how off ice training can directly correlate to on ice training.
Team Building, Leadership & Goal Setting

Players will work with each other to understand leadership, team work, and goal setting. Goal setting will cover short term goals, modest goals and long term goals for both hockey and outside of the rink. Each player regardless of their long term hockey goals will in their lives require both team work and leadership skills. We will use games and activities for the players develop skills for working with their teammates and others.
